I had no art training until I joined a class in our small village in Oxted Surrey (U.K.) in 2001. Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about water-colour, pastel and oil painting. I have been really been inspired to try these different media by my art teacher. Now with no classes for a few years finding the Challenge sites has been a real boon, I am having a great time. The stimulation one gets from the challenges and the wonderful support from other artists has been fantastic.

A New Year 2012 - January Challenges
A pencil sketch for A Day Not Wasted, I felt there was a lot of character in his face, and probably many stories to tell.
I think this oil painting for Paint and Draw together was my favourite subject this month. I made it have a Provencal feel, which I hope comes across.
Studio Atelier offered a selection of nutcrackers for the challenge and I worked this one in pastels.
The last one this month was for Rookie challenge, and was the study of a creamer with spools of cotton inside, worked in oils, I just had to insert the reason , - someone making a rag doll.

I saw your doll with the creamer on Rookiepainter and I just had to come and tell you how much it tickled me to see. I love dolls. No matter how old I get they still hold a special place in my heart and I thought it so clever of you to step outside the box with this painting. Thanks for the inspiration to do the same. All of your drawings and paintings are so well done. I hope to learn from all you Not So rookie painters in my eye.
ReplyDeleteI love the pen and wash painting below too. Wow. All of your art is stupendously good! Glad to meet you here.
